It's not as though we needed a reason, though my daughters have been wanting to make some of the adorable wet felting projects in this book. So we ventured out yesterday in the rain (first-timers) to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival.
The fairgrounds were covered with woolly sheep, llamas, and goats of all colors and sizes, vendors and crafters and artisans. Once the kids found out that the animals were for sale they were relentless. But the whole afternoon was wonderful. Even in the mud.
This gorgeous wall hanging was one of many beautiful "lambscapes" by Susan Leaverton, of Absarokee, MT. She didn't have a web site. It surprised me how few of the vendors that we spoke with have a web presence. One jotted down the etsy URL as we talked. Everywhere there were beautiful skeins and raw roving. A bit overwhelming and I was happy that I showed great restraint. I'll definitely be going back next year.
The girls are excited to begin wet felting some creatures now. I see that the book gets very mixed reviews on Amazon, but I think it's just fine for my kids and their imaginations.
I'll leave you with a few of the inside spreads.
