"Think of an adverb."
"Okay, got it."
"Okay. Now, conduct a ballet class in the manner of the word."
'In the manner of the word'is a hilarious 'round-the-campfire sort of game we learned from wonderful friends a few years ago. Usually accompanied by several beers, it elicits the most hilarious actions on the part of the adverb-selector. Then everyone makes guesses as to the word.
Other iterations might be to 'serve a five-course meal in the manner of the word', or 'officiate a wedding ceremony' in the manner of the word, or any number of other activities one can carry out ... do it in that manner to give hints as to the nature of the adverb. You get it.
It doesn't work as well as a car game, but that didn't stop Paul from trying to engage me in a round on the way home from the wedding yesterday.
If putting together the amazing family wedding we attended were played out as a version of this game, some possible choices might be lovingly ... creatively ... thoughtfully ... personally ... beautifully.
If the game were played in reference to how we all took part in the celebration it might include joyfully, happily, proudly, and effervescently.
It was a fabulous celebration in every possible way, and we were not surprised, knowing Matt and Tiffany, that they have awesome friends, many of whom we were meeting for the first time.
This was the first wedding both my daughters attended, and foremost in my mind was that they truly set the bar high in terms of finding that right match, and maintaining high standards as to how they deserve to be treated as young women, as they grow.
The girls were pretty awestruck by every lovely detail, but especially remarked on how they liked the bar (yikes!) that they could walk right up and politely request a ginger ale or sprite with a fancy orange twist.
Although I forgot to take my camera, I was loaned one for the evening (thank you Seth!) and managed despite being unfamiliar with the settings (no shifting on the fly macros, no permanently programming the flash in the 'off' setting, etc., etc. )
The best camera truly is the one that you have with you.
We would not have missed this ceremony and celebration for the world.
One of the things that stands out for me among the many blessings of the evening was in their vows: The inclusion of the notion that they challenge each other, and (I'm paraphrasing here) help each other to see what they would not otherwise see naturally. Loved that!
We are forever in your support Matt and Tiff.
Best wishes!
