It’s been almost four months since we moved from Maryland to Ohio. The blessings of summer kept me distracted from the twinge of raw goodbyes with neighbors so close to the surface. I felt shy about it before, but I’m finally ready to talk about our home there.

“What is the goal? A house that is like the life that goes with it, a house that gives us beauty as we understand it – and beauty of a nobler kind that we may grow to understand.” – Elsie De Wolf

Over the next few weeks I’m going to showcase our Takoma Park home that my husband built. I use that word in its rare, true form. Every landscape stone, every sidewalk brick and porcelain Spanish tile was selected by the two of us, and installed by his hands. I was offered a feature with one of the design blogs, but a big part of my purpose is to honor the way our lives were enriched and elevated because of the process. I’m not sure I could do that justice through their interview. Not sure I can here either, but I’ll do my best. It’s a big part of my story.
