One of the projects I've designed for the International Paper & Co. Show, is a class I'm calling "of the hand to the heart."
I'm very happy to share that this class is sponsored by, and will include beautiful elements from the wonderful Paper Valise.
In the two-hour class we'll work together to apply a visual structure to your own personal letter, in the form of a tiny mini book. This project could be crafted for your child, spouse, partner, or parent; your choice.
Many of my recent memory-keeping projects have relied heavily on desktop publishing, and I'm actually glad we don't have that technology to utilize in this hands-on workshop environment.
"While computers might set type in flawlessly accurate columns, things that are handmade are beautiful by virtue of their irregularities. These imperfections are marks of dignity and integrity. They bear witness to the artist -- and the human -- in all of us."
-- Debbie Milman, excerpt from Fingerprint, by Chen Design Associates
Fingerprint is a book I've turned to for inspiration over the past few years for its broad examples of hand-lettering, and hand illustration in graphic design.
In the class I'll provide writing prompts and assistance to make your project a unique, heartfelt treasure.
My goal is to build and instill confidence in participants in their own penmanship, and other touches with watercolor paints.
The inclusion of these elements in memory-keeping projects is steeped in tradition, classic, and timeless; a gift in and of itself. There is no replacing the personal touch of the hand.
There are two sessions of "of the hand .. ': Friday Nov. 26, and Sat. Nov. 27. Registration is open now.
I'll be outlining my other two projects/classes for the IP&Co. show here over the next couple of weeks.
If you're unable to be in France for this event and interested in making projects together with me, keep your eyes to my site for an announcement soon about an exciting NEW online collaboration.
